Using interventions that do not work is a waste of valuable resources (money, time, energy) and doing so creates a false promise to those for whom they are provided. It is important, therefore, to use interventions that are effective. The following are examples of useful sources of evidence and guidelines relevant to low- and middle-income countries.

- The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene provides special collections of publications on specific diseases
- Research for Development (R4D) provides information on the current global health related research portfolio of the UK Government
- WHO guidelines are available for a wide range of conditions and provide guidance on both clinical practice and policy.
- Medecins Sans Frontieres has collected a variety of research and guidance useful for particular settings.
