We are very grateful to the people below who have been willing to share their stories of involvement in global health. We are also indebted to Phoebe Crane (final year medical student at Southampton) who carried out the interviews. Follow the links below to learn their stories 

 

David Hendry: David was a final year medical student in Southampton when he was involved in a project with the Southampton and Winchester Visitors Group. The group supports migrants and asylum seekers and David describes his experiences working with them. 

 

Rory Honney : Rory is a General Practitioner in Andover and and was based in Cambodia when he was a Fellow on the Improving Global Health through Leadership Development Programme. On his way back he spent a short time with WHO Europe and is now involved with a charity related to global health. 

 

Joanna Kalderon : Joanna was a medical student in Southampton and was interested to learn more about global health. She undertook an intercalated degree in global health during her undergraduate medical training, which she describes in this interview. 

 

Judy Mella: Judy is a Consultant Surgeon in Poole and has worked with the Poole Africa Link, which is now a partnership with Lira Hospital in Uganda. Judy undertook a Masters in Global Surgery at Kings College, London, and now also works with MSF. 

 

Howard Simpson: Howard is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine in Basingstoke and is the Chair of Basingstoke's partnership with Hoima Hospital in Uganda, which he has visited several times. 

 

Simon Struthers : Simon is a Consultant Paediatrician in Winchester and has been involved with the hospital's link with South Sudan for several years. He is also involved through the Royal College of Paediatricians with a UNICEF project in Nepal and is on the Emergency Register of UKMed.
